UHP Water Jetting Safety
Ultra-High Pressure (UHP) water jetting, also known as waterblasting, utilizes water pressures ranging from 10,000 to an amazing 40,000 pounds per square inch, by forcing water through a perfected machine nozzle. Applications include concrete hydrodemolition, tank cleaning, surface preparation, heat exchanger, and tube cleaning.
In many areas, water jet cleaning systems are replacing the use of sandblasters as a more cost effective and environmentally sound alternative. Water is easier to recover and recycle than contaminated sand. The power of a water jet also offers new solutions to cleaning and preparing surfaces in difficult confined spaces where the use of sandblasting would not be practical or possible.
For difficult projects such as concrete removal or steel structure demolition, many contractors now use hydrodemolition or hydroblasting methods instead of jackhammers, particularly when precision is of the utmost importance. Protection for the UHP water jet operators who perform these tasks is becoming increasingly important as these methods gain usage.
